The following guidelines apply to all Schengen Member States, including Malta, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, and all other countries participating in the Schengen Agreement.

These rules determine whether a traveller must apply for a visa, which documents are required, and how the application process works.

A guided procedure—available through official Schengen visa portals—helps applicants understand whether a visa is required based on:

• nationality
   
• country of residence
   
• purpose of travel
   
• length of stay (up to 90 days)
   

Submitting the required documentation does not guarantee visa approval.
Upon entering the Schengen Area, Border Authorities may verify again that all documents for visa issuance are still valid and truthful.

Welcome to the Schengen Visa E-Application system, a tool used by many Schengen countries to help travellers complete their short-stay visa forms.

Please read the following instructions carefully before filling out your application.

You may use the system only for short-stay visas (Type C):

• stay of up to 90 days
   
• tourism, business, family visit, medical reasons, etc.
   

You cannot use this system for:

• long-term visas
   
• work permits
   
• study visas
   
• residency applications
   

For these cases, contact the competent embassy or consulate directly.

To complete the online form, you will need:

• a modern browser (HTML5, CSS3 compatible)
   
• Adobe Acrobat Reader (version 10 or later)
   
• a printer to print the final application
   

Please prepare:

• valid passport
   
  • must be valid for at least 3 months beyond your planned exit date
     
  • must have been issued within the last 10 years
     
• travel/flight itinerary
   
• hotel booking (if applicable)
   
• letter of invitation (if applicable)
   

Most Schengen E-Application portals support English or the language of the issuing country.
Do NOT change the language after starting—your data may be deleted.

Non-Latin alphabets cannot be processed by the system.

All dates must follow the format:
YYYY-MM-DD

• You may save your partially completed application after entering at least surname and date of birth.
   
• To resume your work later, select "Load data" and import your saved file.
   

To print the visa application, all mandatory fields must be completed.

The printed package includes:

• the visa application form (must be signed)
   
• encrypted barcodes containing your E-Application data
   

The application cannot be submitted online.
You must lodge your visa request:

• at the competent Embassy or Consulate, or
   
• at an authorised Visa Application Centre (VAC)
   

You must bring:

• signed visa application form
   
• barcode pages
   
• all required supporting documents (varies by visa type)
   

You must apply at the embassy/consulate responsible for your place of residence.

If travelling to multiple Schengen countries, you must apply to:

1️⃣ the country where you will spend the most days
OR
2️⃣ the country of first entry, if the stay is equal in multiple states
